Choosing tours in Belize City
Tours in Belize City cover city sightseeing, Maya ruins and guided cave activities, with starting points that matter as much as the destination. A cruise passenger needs a meeting compatible with tender arrival, while an overnight visitor can choose a hotel departure. Begin with that practical distinction, then compare time on the road, time at the site and any activity on the water.
Choose a city highlights outing for transport, guiding and rum tasting within a city-focused programme. The Altun Ha and city combination is a different proposition: its included entrance fees, English-speaking guide and water support an archaeological visit as well as city sights. Hotel collection on that outing applies only with the selected option. For the wider urban context, see things to do in the city.

Day trips from Belize City
Choose Lamanai for a river journey and ruins, or the city outing for a shorter guided visit. Cave packages suit visitors seeking a water activity.

Day trips: choose the route before the extras
A mainland day trip is easier to judge by the route than by a long list of attractions. Altun Ha was a Maya trading and ceremonial centre. Lamanai lies by the New River in Orange Walk District and combines road travel with a river approach in the selected excursions. An island water taxi serves a different route; meeting at a city marine terminal should not be treated as an included ferry connection.
The Lamanai outing with a jungle boat ride includes a guide and park fee, lunch and refreshments, an air-conditioned van and pickup and return at the agreed city hotel, airport, accommodation or cruise port. The other guided Lamanai package includes a New River cruise, archaeological guiding, site permits, park fees, water, buffet lunch and air-conditioned return transport from a hotel, airport or port. Choose between their actual starting arrangements rather than adding unrelated island travel to the day.
At the Maya sites, follow marked paths, wear suitable footwear and use handrails where provided. Published NICH visitor guidance gives a maximum of 15 guests per guide and prohibits jumping on monuments. For independent entry, keep the reserve ticket separate from a complete excursion price. Arrange site access around your chosen daytime itinerary rather than building a plan around an early or late opening assumption.
Cave tubing and zipline options
The cave activity with Crystal Cave or zipline choices includes guide service, helmets, lights, flotation devices, tubes and park entrance fees. Lunch is included for cave-tubing participants. Its detailed duration is 5 to 7 hours, and pickup in Belize City is an available option. Select the version you want instead of reading every activity in the title as one combined programme.
The tubing and zipline package with lunch is a separate combination. It includes professional guides, safety gear for both activities, park fees and local site taxes, a chicken tamale lunch, bottled water and return air-conditioned transport from Belize City or the cruise port. The cave-tubing guide explains the activity and the difference between a guided forest approach, tubing and a zipline option.
Nohoch Che’en participation and water levels
NICH’s undated published visitor guidance calls for a guide and no more than 8 guests per guide. Participants must be at least 40 inches (101.6 cm) tall, able to swim and in good physical condition. A life jacket and helmet with a light are part of the visitor requirements. Admission age categories are separate from permission to take part in a water activity.
Do not touch or climb cave formations. Water levels can change the programme, so establish the operating conditions for your date with the activity arrangements. Ordinary ticket information does not settle whether the water route will operate that day. Keep the distinction between these visitor requirements and the equipment or meal included in a particular tour.
Hotel, port or airport departure
For a ship visit, start with the shore-excursion guidance and your ship’s actual return deadline. Terminal 1 is a specific meeting detail on some products, not a name for the whole tender journey. For an overnight stay, choose the pickup option that names your city accommodation. A tour with airport pickup is also different from a simple airport transfer to town.
If you want an explicitly private activity, use the private tours page. Keep the chosen activity format separate from transport wording: an included vehicle or hotel pickup alone does not describe the privacy of the whole excursion. Avoid packing a city visit, a mainland activity and an island connection into one schedule before accounting for each travel stage.
ATM Cave
For guided visits to the separate archaeological cave site, use the dedicated guide. Keep this choice separate from Nohoch Che’en tubing and from the Belize City itineraries discussed here.
Tour planning questions
Which outing suits a city-focused visit?
The city highlights outing includes a guide, transportation and rum tasting. Choose it for a city programme rather than substituting it for a cave or archaeological excursion.
How does hotel pickup work?
The Altun Ha and city outing has hotel pickup and return when that option is selected. Other excursions have their own listed pickup arrangements; match the selected departure to your accommodation or port arrival.
Can I combine Lamanai with a ferry connection?
Treat the island ferry and the mainland excursion as separate stages. The Lamanai route uses roads and the New River, while water taxis connect the city with Caye Caulker and San Pedro.
